Earl Hooker
Earl Hooker
Earl Hooker was born January 15, 1929 died April 21, 1970 and was a legendary Chicago Blues Guitarist. Hailed as being "undeniably a virtuoso among guitar players" Hooker was
also acknowledged by other artists like BB King: "to me he is the best of modern guitarists. Period. With the slide he was the best. It was nobody else like him, he was just one of a kind".
Earl Hooker was the cousin of John Lee Hooker and had an almost jazzy way of playing the guitar. He was an early proponent of stage acrobatics and theatrics a-la T-Bone Walker and inspired artists like 'Guitar Slim' and Johnny "Guitar" Watson and even Jimi Hendrix. Before his death in 1970 he started to experiment with the new technology of the time using Wah-Wah pedals, double tracked guitars, delays and amplification to shape his sound.
Other Blues artists such as Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Willie Dixon, Ronnie Earl and Otis Rush Considered Earl Hooker to be the greatest Blues Guitarist of his generation and in this Category you will find a growing number of Blues Backing Tracks that are inspired by classic Earl Hooker Tracks!
